The best game in years capped a sparkling All-Star Weekend that served as a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant (24 was one of his uniform numbers and the target fourth quarter score). After years of players approaching the game not to get hurt and pull off a couple of acrobatic plays, the All-Star Game resembled a playoff game, with players vigorously arguing calls, challenging each other defensively, and making the extra pass instead of the showboating play. The result was one of the more exciting All-Star Games in decades and it’s almost a certainty the NBA will stick with this new format.
The league devised a new game format, with each team playing to win quarters and then an untimed fourth period with the winning team needing to add 24 points to its combined score for three quarters.
With Team Giannis leading by 9 points after their first three quarter scores were a combined 133, the target score became 157. And Team Giannis and Team LeBron played as physical and defensive-themed fourth quarter that brought shades of All-Star Games from the 1980s and ’90s.
Anthony Davis of Team LeBron sealed the game with a free throw for a 157-155 win. While the ending with a free throw was anticlimactic, the passionate play that led up that conclusion was the storyline.
Giannis Sina Ougko Antetokounmpo (born December 6, 1994) is a Greek professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Although nearly 7 feet tall, Antetokounmpo possesses the "ball-handling skills of a point guard and the battering ram force of an old school center," giving rise to his nickname the "Greek Freak".
During the 2015–16 season he became the Bucks' primary playmaker, and in 2016–17 he led the Bucks in all five major statistical categories and became the first player in NBA history to finish a regular season in the top 20 in total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He received the Most Improved Player award in 2017.
He has received three All-Star selections, and led the Eastern Conference in voting in 2019. That same year, he was named NBA Most Valuable Player.
Early life and career
Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece, on December 6, 1994, the son of immigrants from Nigeria. Three years earlier, his parents had moved from Lagos, leaving behind their firstborn son, Francis, with his grandparents. Though Antetokounmpo and three of his four brothers were born in Greece, they did not automatically qualify to receive full Greek citizenship as Greece does not have birthright citizenship. For the first 18 years of his life Antetokounmpo was effectively stateless, having no papers from Nigeria or Greece.
Antetokounmpo grew up in the Athens neighborhood of Sepolia. The New York Times reported: "Like many other immigrants to Greece, his parents struggled to find work. Antetokounmpo and his older brother, Thanasis, helped out by hawking items such as watches, bags and sunglasses." In 2007 Antetokounmpo started playing basketball, and by 2009 he was playing competitively for the youth squad of Filathlitikos. In 2011 he joined the senior men's team of Filathlitikos, and played with them in Greece's third-tier level semi-pro league, the Greek 3rd Division, during the 2011–12 season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo took the next step in his larger than life rise to NBA superstardom by winning the 2018-19 NBA Most Valuable Player award. And the results weren't even that close. The Greek Freak collected 78 out of a possible 101 first-place votes and 23 more second-place votes. His 941 total points beat out the reigning MVP James Harden by a significant margin.
Antetokounmpo isn't satisfied with winning the MVP award. He wants more. He had a warning to the rest of the league during his acceptance speech on Monday night, "This is just the beginning. My goal is to win a championship. I'm going to do whatever it takes to make that happen." If there's anything we know about the Greek Freak, it's that when he sets his mind on something he usually gets it.

During the 2013 NBA draft, analyst Fran Fraschilla introduced Giannis Antetokounmpo, a raw and relatively unknown 18-year-old from Greece, as the evening’s “most mysterious” prospect. Six years later, the Milwaukee Bucks forward earned a significantly more prestigious superlative: most valuable player.
The hype around the “Greek Freak” — a long-striding forward who even then excelled in transition and covered ground like few NBA players — propelled him to the 15th pick in 2013 and a bench role as a rookie.
Antetokounmpo’s step-by-step advance continued from there: He became a full-time starter in 2014-15, a lead scoring option in 2015-16, the NBA’s most improved player in 2016-17 and a clear-cut franchise player in 2017-18. The sixth-year pro was the central force of Milwaukee’s third-ranked offense, driving hard to the basket to set up his teammates’ outside shots, and the linchpin of its top-ranked defense. Antetokounmpo was also one of three finalists for defensive player of the year, an award claimed by Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert.
In the playoffs, Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee to a breezy sweep of the Detroit Pistons in the first round and a five-game thumping of the Boston Celtics in the conference semifinals. After claiming a 2-0 lead over the Toronto Raptors in the conference finals, the Bucks lost four straight games in stunning fashion. Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard, the eventual NBA Finals MVP, switched onto Antetokounmpo in the defining adjustment of the series.

Me he maravillado con esa imagen tan hermosa de un jugador excepcional como Leonard, que no es muy expresivo, hablándole al prodigio rival Giannis, que estaba destruido por la derrota.
En lugar de estar dando rienda suelta a su alegría por el triunfo Leonard estaba apoyando a su rival que sabía estaba sufriendo mucho con la derrota.
Este partido fue magia pura por tanto derroche de talento, ofensivo y defensivo, individual y de juego en equipo.
Este partido fue un himno a la magia de los Playoffs de la NBA que selló magistralmente el diálogo de apoyo y solidaridad de Leonard a Giannis, el diálogo enaltecedor entre rivales que por encima de todo se respetan y se cuidan entre ellos.

Cuando la serie va empatada 2-2 es sencillamente porque cada juego ha tenido un desarrollo muy diferente y porque las estrategias ganadoras han estado igualmente repartidas a dos por equipo.
Los Raptors de Toronto ya encontraron, aparentemente, el antídoto para frenar la magia del prodigio griego Giannis Antetokounmpo. Barrera de hasta 3 jugadores para bloquearlo. Pero aún así Giannis marcó 25 puntos en el juego 4.
Los Bucks tienen claro que las estrategias defensivas de los Raptors son excelentes. Para romper ese juego defensivo de varios jugadores contra uno, lo clásico es que se aproveche la ofensiva de los jugadores que quedan libres. El problema es que estos pueden no ser tan fiables.
Creo que por lo menos al comienzo del partido cada equipo va a intentar jugar con sus estrellas para tratar de sacar ventajas en el marcador.
En los Bucks tanto Giannis como Khris Middleton están en gran forma. Lo que necesitan urgente es mejorar el desempeño de la "Banca". En el partido 4 la "Banca" de los Bucks perdió por 25 puntos contra la de los Raptors. Allí estuvo la clave de la derrota.
Los Raptors necesitan urgentemente que Kawhi Leonard y Danny Green vuelvan a su nivel competitivo normal. Lo ideal es que la "Banca" pudiese mantener la excelencia que demostró en el partido 4.
Mi favorito para esta noche, ligeramente los Bucks.
De todas formas, yo como aficionado apasionado por el Big Picture del deporte ganó siempre con los partidos de los Playoffs de la NBA. Esto es excelencia al máximo nivel. Estos partidos son un entretenimiento maravilloso para mí, mientras aprendo en forma intensiva sobre cómo mejorar mi vida personal y mis negocios, en, por ejemplo, estrategia, liderazgo, trabajo en equipo, gestión del cambio, y gestión del recurso humano. Todo en tiempo real. Aprendizaje con gozo espectacular.

La única forma de parar a Giannis fue montándole una barrera de hasta tres hombres al frente. Al principio del partido la magia de Giannis superó ampliamente a la férrea defensa de los Raptors. Pero, la defensiva de los Raptors se fue haciendo más brillante, más cerrada, y frenaron al prodigio griego.
Como la "Banca" de los Bucks no estuvo en su noche, aunque Giannis distribuyera muy bien el balón a sus compañeros libres, estos no marcaban. Mientras sucedía todo lo contrario con los Raptors, Leonard lucía mucho menos que Giannis pero la "Banca" de los Raptors si estaba en su noche. Y mientras descansaba Leonard la ventaja de los Raptors crecía.

Para hacer la historia corta Giannis jugó 34 minutos, marcó 25 puntos (9 de 17 intentos, 6 de 10 en tiros libres y 1 triple en 3 intentos), ganó 10 rebotes e hizo 5 asistencias. Middleton estuvo fabuloso, en sus 36 minutos de juego marcó 30 puntos (11 de 15 intentos, 4 de 5 en tiros libres, 4 hermosos triples en 7 intentos, ganó 6 rebotes e hizo 7 asistencias.
